How the procedure is carried out
Dental veneers are restored in several visits.
During the first visit, it is decided which teeth will be restored with veneers, photographs of the patient’s face and mouth are taken, and an X-ray is taken. The teeth are scanned. Together with the patient, the future colour of the teeth is selected.
During the second visit, an image of the future veneers is created on the teeth to be restored using a special composite to help determine whether the patient’s expectations have been properly understood. The patient can evaluate the future teeth, the bite and adjust the shape of the future veneers. Once the design of the future teeth has been approved, the teeth are prepared by local anaesthesia, removal of decayed tissue and old fillings, and, if necessary, minimal grinding of the tooth surface. The first temporary dental veneers are then made from a special composite and the patient is discharged home.
At the third visit (3-5 days later), photographs of the patient’s face and mouth are taken. The patient is asked what is satisfactory and what is not satisfactory about the current oral image. Intraoral scanner impressions are taken with and without temporary veneers. In addition, high-precision polyether impressions of the polished teeth are taken. This data is sent to the dental technician’s laboratory, where individual veneers are made according to the impressions. In order to prevent the patient from having to walk around with polished teeth, temporary veneers are placed back on the patient.
At the fourth visit (5-10 days later), the individually milled new temporary veneers are measured, which will ideally match the shape of the permanent veneers. They are left in the patient’s mouth. After a few days, once the patient confirms that everything is fine, the permanent ceramic dental veneers are started.
At the fifth visit, 7-14 days later, custom-made permanent dental veneers are bonded to the front surface of the teeth with a special cement to create a regular, radiant smile.
Experts warn that your teeth may be more sensitive during the treatment period and for a few days afterwards, but that this discomfort will disappear very quickly.
